Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi was who?

Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi was born in 1207 in the city of Balkh, in what is now Afghanistan. His family were originally from Central Asia but had settled in the city of Konya, in modern-day Turkey. Mevlana’s father, Bahaeddin Veled, was a respected Islamic scholar and mystic, and it was under his guidance that Mevlana began his spiritual journey.

After his father’s death, Mevlana took over his role as a spiritual leader and founded the Mevlevi order, also known as the Whirling Dervishes. The order was based on the principles of Sufism, a mystical form of Islam that emphasizes the inward search for God and spiritual enlightenment.
